MGMT: Cool alternatives to GA Universities tuition hikes

So, I know by know y'all already heard about the infamous TUITION HIKES that's being debated up there in the closed doors of GA Senate floor...possibly up to 70%??? YIKES!

http://blogs.ajc.com/gold-dome-live/2010/02/24/college-tuition-hikes-get-support-from-strapped-lawmakers/

Despite the final outcomes (which we won't know for a while), I wanna give you the heads up on your alternatives! So, HS juniors and seniors out there (or all GOLers 'n friends of all ages who dream of furthering your education without having to leave our beloved ATL, or file Chapter 11), DON'T FRET! There are other ways to get your degree affordably from a good, reputable and accredited universities! That's right: I am talking about ONLINE DEGREES!

I know some of you probably think of online degrees like you think of 'grade B substandard products'. If you think that, I hope you'd RE-THINK! For the past couple of decades, even Ivy League-ers have expanded their learning wings beyond the four walls of the 'brick-and-mortar" buildings (Yep: Harvard, Columbia, and others to follow) by offering online programs (only short residency required).

As someone who have experienced online learning, and was a HUGE skeptic of it, I am totally converted to this method of learning, primarily due to these reasons:

  1. Viewing lectures in my nighty jammies while having my feet massaged by my deluxe pedi-machine (yep!) is such a relaxing way to 'attend' class!!!
  2. All lecture outlines are scripted by the professor before hand (in some cases), which makes my note taking task minimum.
  3. Because these awesome schools are so scared of people's skepticism about how 'easy' online classes are, they deliberately make it extra harder just to prove 'em wrong! This means: online students actually have to work twice as hard as the on-campus goers, which makes you learn more. Trust me: I can totally attest to this!
  4. Still along the line of 'prove 'em wrong' attitude: online students are having so much easier access to LIVE (often 24/7 for some schools) TUTORS and and online libraries. I never had 24/7 support when I was studying on-campus!
  5. Online students have flexibility to handle work/life balance because we don't have to worry about setting aside time to physically go to class (throughout my 4 years of college, the actual process making myself go to class is actually the hardest thing!)
  6. Despite the myths and rumors of a 'breeze' admission standard, for any accredited schools, the admission standard is EXACTLY the same as the students applying for on-campus degrees.

Based on my research, here goes some examples of accredited colleges/universities that offer "not super pricey" but highly valuable and recognized online degrees that you might wanna check out further:

http://www.ecok.edu/distance_ed/index.htm (East Central Univ Oklahoma)

http://www.drexel.com/ (DREXEL UNIV, Michigan)

http://www.indstate.edu/distance/programs.html (INDIANA STATE)

http://www.elearners.com/college/northwestern-university/ (NORTHWESTERN UNIV Chicago - only offering online degree in Medical Informatics)

http://ecampus.oregonstate.edu/online-degrees/ (OREGON STATE) - Bachelor courses only $226 per credit hour!

http://www.umuc.edu/online_ed.shtml (UNIV OF MARYLAND)

http://online.unl.edu/ (UNIV OF NEBRASKA)

http://www.elearners.com/college/university-of-southern-california/ (University of Southern California- NOT cheap, but it is USC though)- online degrees mostly in EDUCATION/teaching

http://online.uwc.edu/ (Univ of Wisconsin) - AA degree only. about $215 per credit hour.

(there are many more but I have to do more research!)

Anyways, if any of you have questions or need any help finding a good online degree, I would be happy to assist. Drop me a line @678-977-1382 or via email (darmajaya.yenny@gmail.com) or FB!

So, you are not stuck IF colleges here in GA decide to hike it up!

SUPER BELATED MGMT!

Hey Golers 'n friends!

I know this is super belated, but I have been out of town (you will see my Chicago trip posting soon!)

This devotion comes from www.worthydevotions.com and I wanna share it with y'all!

Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

When we read this passage of Scripture, the first thing that probably comes to mind are all the promises that God gave to Abraham and the nation of Israel. But it occurred to me that there is a bigger lesson that we can learn here.

We tend to focus on the part of that scripture where God does the blessing — but why did He bless Him? The answer lies in the passage! The Lord told Abraham: “I will bless you — and you shall be a blessing.” Abraham was blessed so that he could be a blessing!

The same is true today. The Lord has done so much for us! He has blessed us with so many things, the most important of which is His mercy in that He died for sinners like us! He has bestowed us with so much grace! He has allowed us to come into His Kingdom and be a part of the great things He’s doing! What we have received should not only be for our own enjoyment but for the salvation of a dying world around us!

God gives freely to us so that we may give freely to others! Let’s not be afraid to give out the blessings God has granted us! Share God’s goodness! To whom much is given, much is required!

Have a great week!

Good News of the Good Friday

What can wash away our sins?
What can make us whole again?
Nothing but the
blood of Jesus

Today some of us got to attend the sold-out Good Friday concert featuring the awesomeous Passion City Church gang (Louie Giglio, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Christy Nockels...). It was SO crowded, but somehow we actually managed to get some seats - PLUS the weather was perfect (for those who came last year, you know how it felt like attending a thunderous Good Friday concert ^__^).

What can wash us pure as snow?
Welcomed as the friends of God

Nothing but Your blood, King Jesus

As a lifelong Christian (yes - I've been one ever since I could remember), Good Friday has always been one somber day -- a day of solemnity cause Christ died on the Cross to bear my sins. Now, while that's true in every sense of the word, I've been having some kind of major realization lately that I've been itching to share with y'all... that is this: not only did He die for our sins, but there is a very important divine exchange happening on the Cross the day He died.

Your blood speaks a better word
Than all the empty claims I've heard upon this earth
Speaks righteousness for me
And stands in my defense
Jesus it's Your blood

Romans 6:23 claims that the wages of sin is death - and because God is Righteous and Just, sinners like you and I have to die to "pay off" our sins according to the law. Right? Of course! but wait just a second: God Himself is LOVE and John 3:16 said that For GOD so LOVED the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Conflict of interests, no? He has to judge us based on our actions and punish us based on our mistakes/iniquities. But at the same time He LOVES us too much to let us perish...

That's why the only way to "passover"/"save"/"rescue" us is to have JESUS Himself die on that cross in place of you and me: where law died and LOVE lives on... all because of nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Amazing LOVE,
how can it be
That You, my King,
should die for me?

When Louie Giglio shared this message tonight, I felt another ::exchange:: going on in my innermost heart...The usual somber, gloomy (read: GUILTY) feeling that typically looms in when Good Fridays come around was exhanged with JOY and thanksgiving. It's real good to know what a LOVING God we have in Him...and what an amazing, selfless Savior is He who breathes life into our lives.

No wonder today is called the "GOOD Friday"!!! :)

Amazing LOVE,
I know it’s true...
And it's my Joy to honor You,
In all I do, let me honor You...
